Weird!! I'd be greateful if you could pursue this a little more. The macro looks like (the second branch is that matters): #if defined(BOOST_NO_POINTER_TO_MEMBER_TEMPLATE_PARAMETERS) #define BOOST_MULTI_INDEX_MEMBER(Class,Type,MemberName) \ ::boost::multi_index::member_offset #else #define BOOST_MULTI_INDEX_MEMBER(Class,Type,MemberName) \ ::boost::multi_index::member #endif The only difference with the bare member call I can see is the full qualification, with a beginning :: included.
