I am a new user to Boost, and I am trying to compile and install Boost for the first time. In the process, I have run into some problems that the Boost maintainers may be interested in.
I am a new user too.
First, I was wondering if there is a specification as to which version of gcc the Boost libraries are known to compile with.
There are definitely descriptions of use of Boost with each of the major compilers. When there are version-dependent specifics, I think there would be something said when needed.
Second, I noticed that the zip version of the latest release 1_31_0 contains files that are in windows format (ie, the files contain carriage returns).
I know I saw somewhere that the zip format is in the format you describe and that the other format (gz and/or tar or whatever) is in the format more convenient for Unix and Linux. If you download from SourceForge then I think it is clear enough. If you did not download from SourceForge then look there to see if it is made clear enough.
