I found a thread from 2006-09-08 titled '[regex] Perl regex special characters' about whether ']' and '}' should be included in the documentation as characters that must be escaped. After spending quite some time today to discover that my '}' character did in fact need to be escaped, my opinion is that the documentation should be modified.
