Would the uber-naïve heuristic -jone_less_than_max_cores work OK-ish (for a desktop machine)?
For a build machine, a good rule of thumb is to use N+1 to account for I/O wait. If you assume a desktop on which a user wants to do other work, then you to back off by one or two. (All of this assumes sufficient memory.) Which to target with the defaults? ___ Rob (Sent from my portable computation engine)
