IIUC, the question is related to Qt's API for integrating with Qt's event dispatcher, which (IIUC again:p) is used by QApplication, QCoreApplication and QThread.

Correct. I think the gold standard is a thread pool implementation which seamlessly allows Boost.ASIO to be combined with Qt's event dispatcher all in the single implementation. In other words, the thread pool can cope with multiple simultaneous event dispatcher implementations.
