Does https://github.com/boostcon/2011_presentations/raw/master/mon/Boost.Build.pd... somewhat help? When I worked on the presentation, I wasn't an expert (I exchanged countless of emails with Vladimir back then in 2011 who gave me a lot of background information). I tried to present all the information in a way that it made sense to me and hopefully to others who find the build system to be a mystery. While the presentation is out there on GitHub for years, I feel hardly anybody knows about it (or maybe people know but the presentation isn't that helpful?).
It certainly does help a lot - but it isn't what users and authors will get 'by default'. As often with computing, the cognoscenti just can't see what those at the shallower end of the gene pool find so difficult. And *why* Boost uses an unfamiliar build tool. Paul --- Paul A.
