PS would it pay to do a dummy release process *before* starting on the actual release to make sure all the scripts etc still work? Or maybe someone has done this already?

The build process definitely does not still work, since at its' heart is "svn export". That script will have to be rewritten (and will have to do something similar to `b2 headers` as well)

I'll probably build some pre-beta things before releasing an RC1, at which point other people can bang on it.
